Cassy is "Daddy's Princess". After not being socialised with other dogs and people at an early age, she has found life quite disturbing at times. It has taken 3 years to help Cassy understand that not everyone and every dog she meets is going to cause her harm. Cassy loves to work and Obedience has been kind to her. Attending shows has helped her learn that you can be in the company of others without the need to defend yourself the whole time. When Cassy has her head in gear, she can produce some wonderful work in the Obedience ring and as she gets older and less wary of what is going on around her she is getting better and better at listening to me rather than looking all around the whole show, while working her round. She is still uncomfortable doing her stays in competition as she hates me leaving her, but she has a habit of completing stays I think she will break and moving on the ones I think she is settled on when I leave her. She's a madam at times but I love her to pieces.
Cassy has won quite a number of rosettes at obedience shows over the last couple of years. her highest placing so far was a Fourth. If the dogs were marked just on how much fun they were having, her wagging tail and smile on her face would win her a first any day of the year.Cassy does everything FAST. I think Cassy's ambition is to work a whole round in under 30 seconds as when working her, you have to RUN!!
Cassy passed her Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award!!!!!
In January 2008, Cassy passed her GCDS Bronze award. This is a
big step for Cassy and is just another way of her proving that she has improved
over the years. She took the whole test in her stride and was not flustered by
any part of it. I have been wanting to try Cassy at the Bronze award for a long
time but it was worth the wait. I knew you could do it girl!! Lots of work to do
before Cassy can attempt the Silver as although she is usually quite happy to
allow a person to give her the quickest stroke on the head nowadays, she is
still not happy about anyone other than me touching her for prolonged periods
such as examining her teeth, ears feet etc.
Something to work on in the future.
Cassy has started coming on behaviour visits with me this year
and now does not just sit in the van while Thor helps. ON a number of occasions,
Cassy has been the one to help me show an owner how you can control your dog
whilst both handler and dog enjoy themselves.
Cassy has also had a bit of a go at Working Trials and
Schutzhund and she quite enjoys the faster pace of things in these disciplines.
She enjoys the faster heelwork, nosework, agility and protection stages to the
fullest and the protection training has helped her to overcome some of her fear
of strangers...either than or she just enjoys playing "fetch" with people!!
